Reed Music Instruments 簧片音乐 - Christian Gottlieb Kratzenstein - Speaking machine (1780) 语音机

In 1780, Christian Gottlieb Kratzenstein published a “speaking machine” in St. Petersburg that could speak the vowels a,e,i,o,u.

Kratzenstein developed a new free reed technology for the machine. This new Free Reed technique is always referred to by scholars as the first Free Reed technique developed in Europe.

Whether a Chinese Sheng or a Laotian Khene had an influence on this free reed technique is the subject of much debate among scholars.

If you want to find out more about it, watch the video part 21 of my Sheng series.

There are no drawings of the speaking machine, and the machine did not survive the test of time either, it disappeared or burned in a fire.

My 3D models are based on drawings I found on the internet that could possibly represent Kratzenstein's speaking machine.

I also made 3D models of the technical drawings of the pipes and resonators of the speaking machine, which can be found in the following report:

I have also added two renders of my own attempts at 3D models of the technical drawings
