Organ History - Bellows and Calcants

ORGAN BELLOWS and CALCANTS

The development of new bellows systems for air supply was a very important part of the further development of the organ.

In the beginning, many calcants, bellows steppers, were necessary to generate enough air for the pipes.

But soon systems were developed where a single calcant could generate as much air as 4 or more calcants.

On display are 3D models of important bellows systems that can be found in historical music books.
