Piri - Kora Doublereed Flute Instrument - 피리 - 觱篥

The piri is a traditional Korean double reed flute. Is played in court music and folk music. Very loud and dominant in volume, comparable to a saxophone or an oboe.

It is said to have been known since the time of the Three Kingdoms of Korea 57BC-668AD. Came to Korea via China or from the former Buddhist Kingdom of Kucha (in what is now northwestern China) on the Silk Road. The Chinese variant is called Guan, Gunazi or Bili, and the Japanese variant is called Hichiriki.
