In 1829 an instrument named Neu Tschiang appeared in the AMZ
(Germany, Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung 29 July, No.30).
The instrument was invented and built by Mr. Reichstein zu Gnadenfeld von Schlesien.
The report was written by the acoustician Friedrich Mehwald,
to whom the instrument was sent for inspection.
Friedrich Mehwald describes the functions of the new instrument and makes technical drawings
which he also publishes in the AMZ.
Mehwald writes that he found free reed technique like of the Tschiang (German name for Sheng)
in the instrument and therefore named it Neu-Tschiang (New-Tschiang).
