Beth March - Little Woman (Elizabeth Sewall Alcott) - Melodeon

A fan work in memory of Beth March from the Little Woman book.

The book Little Woman is semi-autobiographical and portrays the lives of four young women in 19th century New England.
One of the four sisters is Elizabeth Alcott who is portrayed as Beth March in the book Little Woman.

As in real life, Beth March is a self-sacrificing, devoted, family-loving young woman.
One of her hobbies is playing keyboard instruments.

Elizabeth Alcott died very young at the age of 22, she contracted a sickness from which she never recovered.

While researching the Free Reed Organ history of the USA, I saw a Melodeon in the Orchard House Museum in Concord Messachusetts.
The Ochard House was where the four sisters lived with their family for several years in real life, where Elizabeth died in 1858, and where Louisa May Alcott, Elizabeth's sister, wrote the book Little Woman in 1868.

On the side of the museum above the melodeon is a picture of Elizabeth Alcott who probably played the instrument herself.

Elizabeth Alcott, Beth March, was probably a brave young woman who was always there for her family and remained selfless until her death.

A very touching story that brings tears to the eyes.

The melodeon in the apple orchard is a small reminder of Beth. Rest in peace.
