China PAI-XIAO 排簫 - Korea SO 소 / Panflute Evolution 1000 BC 周朝 - 2000 AD 清朝

Fascinated by the long history of the Pai-Xiao 排簫, I tried to recreate the most relevant stages of development of the Pai-xiao as a 3D model.

I tried to reconstruct the flutes as good as possible, based on pictures and scientific reports (links in the YouTube video description), to assign the right materials to them, and to classify them in time.

The origin of this work was the search for the Korean So 소 Pan Flute. The So Pan flute is still played today in the Korean court music Aak. Since Aak originated from the Chinese court music Yayue, the intersection and the common use of this pan flute can be found here.

The research only served to reconstruct my 3D flute models, if I have overlooked an important stage of development, or a chronological allocation is not correct, please write it in the comments, improvement is always welcome.

The long history of the Pai-xiao, goes from the beginnings of the bone flutes, the development of materials and scales, the use in Confucian court music, a fading and blossoming in the dynasties, the spread in East Asia, to the use in Korean court music.
